A lot of students out lately looking for opensource projects without any obvious goals... I wonder if there's some MOOC or something on open source contribution going on.

Heh, the test duration for tests.examples.quickstart.1d_wave_equation seems proportional to the amount of memory you allow in its cgroup. Limps along quite a bit with just 0.2 GiB :)
<heller_>
simbergm: yeah I wanted to avoid the pr without the version compare though
<heller_>
And it's a one line fix...
<simbergm>
not sure if I follow exactly who wanted to do what, but your PR is exactly what we need
<heller_>
Yes
<heller_>
diehlpk_work: sorry if I jumped ahead...
<heller_>
hkaiser: so, it's not a stack overflow. It looks like, at some stage, the component type gets messed up. When the assert fires, it is 1(plain_action)
<heller_>
It's some kind of race condition...
<heller_>
hkaiser: could this be related to the changes regarding the local only lookup?
<heller_>
the corresponding id_type is {unmanaged, msb = 0x7fcd39482f40, lsb=4263936}
<heller_>
sorry, this: the corresponding id_type is {unmanaged, msb = 0x100000002, lsb=0x411000}

<ravibitsgoa>
hi everyone, a beginner contributor here. I am building and installing hpx as of now. Should I install it on my system or inside a docker container?
<simbergm>
hkaiser: ok, thanks
<simbergm>
ravibitsgoa: I would say it depends on how much you've used docker before
<simbergm>
If not much you'll just be complicating things
<ravibitsgoa>
okay thanks!
<simbergm>
Also, not sure if I follow, but are you building it inside a container now?
<ravibitsgoa>
nope, I was building directly
<ravibitsgoa>
But, the developer docs say that docker is preferred
<simbergm>
Okay, I wrote that part, maybe I should make the wording a bit more relaxed there
<simbergm>
It can be helpful because you don't have to hunt down dependencies and so on
<simbergm>
But on the other hand you have to learn how to use docker
<simbergm>
But considering you're already building without docker it means you already found the dependencies
<zao>
ravibitsgoa: Containers help with not ruining your system trying to get all the dependencies in place.
<zao>
But get in the way of actually using the thing, and might make it harder to run things like debuggers and IDEs.
<simbergm>
^ wise words
<zao>
I would recommend at least setting -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/home/you/opt/hpx-blargh or so, to avoid installing into global locations and allowing multiple concurrent installations.
<zao>
No-one gets happy when you install into /usr/local :)

simbergm: from my point of view, we could release 1.2.0 any time now
<heller_>
I think we have a very stable code base at the moment (I am running tests since days at 16 nodes, and scaled up to 256 nodes very frequently)
