<hodor123456> Hello everyone,I am new to OS and want to contribute for GSoC.Where should I start? Please somebody guide me.

<jbjnr> hodor123456: hi there. Best place to start would be to look at the project on the wiki page from previous years https://github.com/STEllAR-GROUP/hpx/wiki/GSoC-2017-Project-Ideas and see if there's anything that you think is interesting and within your skill level. If not - make some thing up of your own initially. But then ghet familiar with the library. Building running tests, implementing simple test programs
<jbjnr> if you're already quite capable, then ask more detailed questions about the gsoc projects etc

<jbjnr> hkaiser: yt?
<hkaiser> jbjnr: here
<jbjnr> news: https://pasteboard.co/GW2QO3Y.png - for tile sizes 128/256 we're still 10%-15% off - but otherwise, we're doing not too bad.
<hkaiser> jbjnr: I'm a looser, I can't get things to work properly :/
<jbjnr> Welcome to my world
<hkaiser> lol
<hkaiser> nice results
<jbjnr> and Loser is spelt, Loser, not Looser. Looser is what happens to your trousers when you go on a diet
<jbjnr> :)
<hkaiser> jbjnr: whatever ;)
<hkaiser> I'm running around without trousers anyways
<jbjnr> what can't you get working?
<jbjnr> the future/then stuff?
<hkaiser> the changes we discussed - need more time
<hkaiser> I promised that stuff to you, but can't get around to get it right
<jbjnr> unless they give me the 15% I need, it's not urgent.
<hkaiser> k
<hkaiser> can't primise that
<jbjnr> I have so many branches and diffs I'm working on, another set would be crazy any way ...
<heller> could someone take a look at #3007 please? this problem is a real show stopper for running on arm
<hkaiser> jbjnr: so the larger the matrix the better
<hkaiser> heller: on my list for days, can't get to it
<jbjnr> hkaiser: not quite - the tradeoff between ration of matrix/block sizes is imprtant too
<jbjnr> ^ratio
<hkaiser> ...grainsize
<heller> hkaiser: much appreciated. It works pretty nicely for me. closing in on the clang_tidy stuff as well
<hkaiser> cool
<heller> the combination clang-5 + libc++ + c++17 is currently holding me back most...
<heller> std::shuffle vs. std::random_shuffle vs. those functions only take random access iterators and not forward iterators...
<jbjnr> heller: reviewing 3007 now
<hkaiser> heller: let me review #3007 before merging in any case, pls - this needs to be tested on windows
<heller> hkaiser: sure thing, that's why I asked... I am not a fan of merging without review. irregardless how long the PR is open.
<heller> hkaiser: #2982 should be ready now as well

<jbjnr> what do you mean?
<hkaiser> well, you siad there 'if this has been addressed it can be closed immediately'
<hkaiser> has it been addressed?
simbergm has quit [Ping timeout: 268 seconds]
<jbjnr> if heller has fixed the arg copy, then he should close the issue - I don't know if he addressed it
<jbjnr> gtg meeting
<hkaiser> jbjnr: that's what I meant, pls keep an eye on it
<jbjnr> ok
<hkaiser> tks
<diehlpk_work> hkaiser, Will send you soon the measurements for the perihpx code
<diehlpk_work> They look crazy
<hkaiser> lol
<hkaiser> 'crazy' as in marvelous or 'crazy' as in 'they don't make sense'?
<diehlpk_work> marvelous
<diehlpk_work> Idle-rate is constant with respect to worker-threads
<hkaiser> nice
<hkaiser> I hope it's low
<diehlpk_work> Yes, /threads{locality#0/pool#default/worker-thread#0}/idle-rate,1,1777.972189,[s],137,[0.01%]
<hkaiser> nice
<hkaiser> very nice
<diehlpk_work> My concern how does this go?
<diehlpk_work> There is a step where a matrix is solved
<hkaiser> so the parallel algorithms do very well for you
<diehlpk_work> I have to run it again without blaze using hpx
<hkaiser> diehlpk_work: if you don't use hpx with blaze the default blaze parallelization backend will get in the way with hpx
<hkaiser> as those backends spawn their own threads
<diehlpk_work> Ok, I see
<diehlpk_work> The results looks very promising

<diehlpk_work> Plan is to finish the paper at the mid of december

<simbergm> heller, hkaiser: throttle test still sometimes hangs with the periodic priority queue scheduler because (I assume) it doesn't take into account suspended threads when rebalancing; is that scheduler something you'd like to keep around (in which case I'll fix it)?
